Want to start a gaming site?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010 by PalladiumHosting

If you’re considering Palladium Hosting to meet your hosting needs, thank you. Maybe you’re thinking of running a web host. Maybe you’re setting up a blog. Or maybe you’re setting up a gaming site. After all, online gaming, such as RPGs, is a popular hobby. Here’s some advice on how to do that.

There are many different gaming web-sites out there with many different looks, themes, genres, and specialties, but they all have three key things in common, appearance, organization, and accurate content. All three of these elements are critical to the financial well-being of your web business, and no matter what your goal is for your website, it is a business, even if it is not for profit. The more care and attention you pay to it, the more attention it will draw from your target audience.

First and foremost is appearance. The first thing the consumer sees is the look of your web site, and if it does not grab your target audience’s attention by its face inside the first fifteen seconds, then they are not likely to stay and actually read your content. Thus, it is necessary to give them flashy, and eye-catching imagery that will draw them in without putting the reader in an epileptic seizure.

Why it’s important to upgrade

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 by PalladiumHosting

If you run PHP applications on your website (and who doesn’t?), you need to make sure that you’re always running the most recent version, and it’s for far more important reasons than just staying current.

PHP by its very nature is prone to attacks, and well-written applications such as WordPress and WHMCS are written by programmers who stay on top of their game, ensuring that they close any holes opened by security flaws. No matter how much work they do, however, hackers do even more work, and that’s why it’s important to always run the latest versions.

Who’s minding the shop?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 by PalladiumHosting

Let’s face it: no one can sit in front of a computer all day, every day, monitoring their website. Who’s watching your site while you’re asleep, at work, or otherwise not near a computer? If you’re hosting with us, we are.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we monitor all of the sites that we host to ensure not only that they’re online, but that hardware and software problems aren’t going to bring your site to its knees. We also watch for DDOS attacks, working on these and other issues immediately, usually before you’re even aware of the problem.

Secure the domain

Friday, April 30th, 2010 by PalladiumHosting

We all know that securing your server (SSH, control panels, etc.) is vital to its security. But just as important is the safety and security of your domain name. After all, it’s at the very core of your Web site.

If someone were to take control of your domain, that would mean that they’d be able to make your site disappear in the blink of an eye. They’d have full control. That, of course, would be a bad thing.

Got a BlackBerry? We can help.

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 by PalladiumHosting

If your small business or company uses BlackBerry devices, you can benefit from our Exchange service, which includes optional access to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

What BES does is it gives you the power to use your BlackBerry device to exchange e-mail, contacts, and calendar events, and it easily distributes these features to your employees. The information that is sent to and from your employees is stored on secure servers, so that you don’t have to worry about sensitive company information falling into the wrong hands.

There are powerful security features, too. Should an employee lose their BlackBerry device, it can immediately be “locked down,” so that prying eyes can’t gain access to your company’s data.

You can leave the work to us; we’ll set the service up, and we’ll maintain it, leaving you to tend to the needs of your business, all while enjoying the power, prestige, and features that BlackBerry devices bring to a company. Or as with all our hosted services you can manage them yourself right from your desktop.  As with our Exchange service, our monthly costs are low and reasonable.

There are many advantages to using a BlackBerry, especially in a business environment. Combine it with the power of Exchange and BES, and you’ve got a mighty business tool that will give your employees the competitive edge that they need to dominate the competition.

Contact us today to learn how easy it is to put this wonderful feature to work for you and your company. We are confident that you will not be disappointed.

Exchange your e-mail for reliability

Monday, April 26th, 2010 by PalladiumHosting

You want your company’s e-mail to work. So does every company, and to achieve that, many companies host their own exchange server. While this may work for some companies, it may not work for all. That’s where our hosted Exchange services come in.

What is Exchange? Essentially, it’s a server that stores your company’s e-mail, contacts, and calender, so that it’s accessible to your employees. It also allows your team to access this information via mobile devices, such as a BlackBerry. With our Exchange service, you can enjoy a wide variety of services, combined with the comfort of knowing that your information is safely and securely stored off-site, so that you don’t have to worry about power outages or other disruptions causing a problem for you and your business.

You’ll be able to filter spam, so that your team isn’t distracted by annoying and unsolicited sales messages. You’ll also be able to store contacts, so that team members can get in touch with clients and co-workers with the click of a button. Not only that, but through the calender function, you’ll be able to easily announce meetings and other important events, and your employees will be able to store that information in their calendars, making miscommunications a thing of the past.

When you sign up for this service, you’ll be in good company; numerous Fortune 500 companies use Microsoft Exchange, and swear by it. More importantly, this indicates that this is a strong product. If the world’s leading companies use and benefit from it, then your company will certainly flourish as a result of converting to it, as well.

The best part is that it’s affordable. There are no setup fees for the email accounts, and the monthly fees are reasonable. Contact us today so you can see just how affordable and vital this service is for you.

Protect yourself from spam

Thursday, April 15th, 2010 by PalladiumHosting

As a domain owner, the last thing you want is someone to spoof your domain and send out spam in your name. SPF records help prevent that. What you do is set up a TXT record that will go in your DNS record. This is not as intimidating as it sounds. You can go to OpenSPF, which is a free site. There, you will be walked through the process of setting up an SPF record based on your site’s needs.

Once your SPF record is set up, you simply go into the DNS settings of your Cpanel account, and add a record. Cpanel makes it easy to go step by step and do this. Once you have added the TXT record, major e-mail providers and Internet Service Providers will check your DNS record to ensure that the e-mail is legitimate. If it is not, the message will either be flagged as spam, or rejected, based upon the preferences you set.
